Larry H. Miller Volkswagen Avondale - Volkswagen Passat Wins European Car of the Year 2015

The Volkswagen Passat has been named the 2015 European Car of the Year! Other contenders included the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mercedes C class. This is the fourth time that Volkswagen has won this award - Two have been won with Volkswagen Golf and one with the Volkswagen Polo. The Passat was chosen due to its advanced technology, design, and configurations. It also included excellent road behavior and comfortable drive.

The panel of judges includes 58 journalists in 22 European countries. In order for a vehicle to qualify, it has to be a new vehicle and have at least 5,000 annual sales.

“We are extremely proud of this accolade,” Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn said in a statement. “In the new Passat, we have again succeeded in developing a car that sets the standards for its class in terms of technology and quality—this honor is a tremendous confirmation for the work of our engineers, designers and the entire team."

"It is truly impressive that Volkswagen managed to win the title for the third time in six years," Hakan Matson, chair of the judging panel and car expert at the Swedish business newspaper Dagens Industri, said in a release. "The Passat has many strong points, including its design, overall quality, safety, spacious interior, and several useful innovations such as the Trailer Assist. With all these features the model clearly deserves to be Car of the Year 2015."

What vehicle won the 2014 Northwest Green Car of the Year?

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI!

This vehicle has ten more horsepower than the outgoing model and improves fuel economy with a new engine. It also has a base price that is lower than the 2014 Golf TDI. The 2015 Golf TDI ranked first in the Alternative Fuel Category and receives the Northwest Green Car of the Year honors.

"The all-new 2015 Golf TDI combines class-leading fuel economy, more power, advanced technology, reduced emissions, all while offering a tremendous value starting $3,000 less than the outgoing model," said Mark McNabb, Chief Operations Officer, Volkswagen of America. "This Northwest Green Car of the Year honor validates the benefits of the Golf TDI and highlights the leadership position the Pacific Northwest has taken in embracing alternative fuel technologies like TDI® Clean Diesel."

The 2015 Golf TDI is the seventh generation Golf and will be available early next year with a turbocharged Clean Diesel engine, and your choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The new engine will get about 31 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon combined which is an improvement of one mile per gallon over the previous numbers.

The 2015 Golf TDI has interior features that includes comfort for both driver and passenger, and increased trunk space.
